Sowing a Seed of Hope in Rugalika Sector: Inclusive Mission for Health and Hope Donates Goats to Vulnerable Families in Kamonyi District

Kamonyi, Rwanda – The Inclusive Mission for Health and Hope (IMHH) organization, in partnership with Center for Health and Hope, has donated 25 goats to vulnerable families in Rugalika Sector, Kamonyi District.

The event is part of IMHH’s long-term livelihood empowerment initiative, aiming to support vulnerable households through the provision of small livestock. This initiative, which began in Rubavu in 2020, has already provided 25 sheep in Rubavu and is set to continue in the years ahead.

“The distribution of these goats is a sustainable strategy for economic strengthening, targeting the most vulnerable families, including HIV-affected individuals and marginalized communities,” said the Executive Director and volunteer at IMHH, Augustin Bahati.

Speaking at the event, Nkurunziza Jean de Dieu, Executive Secretary of Rugalika Sector, urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the goats. “We remind you to return the favor to others, to sustain your income and contribute to the development of your livelihoods and our country at large,” he said.

Divine, a beneficiary, expressed her gratitude on behalf of the community. “I am happy to be among the privileged to receive this donation. With time, we won’t be lacking anything at home – we shall have manure for our gardens and be able to afford basic domestic needs such as soap, and health insurance, known as Mutuelle de Santé,” she said.

The livestock distribution aims to support families facing compounded social and economic challenges, ensuring that nobody is left behind. IMHH and its partners remain committed to playing an active role in the cause to eradicate poverty in Rwanda.

Executive Director and volunteer at IMHH, Augustin Bahati reiterates that yet, while we celebrate this progress, we must also acknowledge a deeper reality that the need remains vast across many rural communities in Rwanda, countless families are still struggling without access to productive assets. Many households, especially widows, elderly caregivers, child-headed families, and those affected by chronic illness continue to face food insecurity and limited income opportunities. For them, a single domestic animal can mean meat for children, manure for crops, and offspring that multiply hope over time.

The intervention in Rugalika Sector is a seed planted but the field is much larger. There are still many villages where families wait for the same opportunity to stand on their own feet. The demand for livestock support in rural Rwanda far exceeds the current supply of assistance.

“May we therefore continue walking this journey together, through partnership, compassion, and sustained commitment. Many more vulnerable households can be reached and hence therefore the expansion of this initiative to other sectors and districts. Every contribution, small or large moves us closer to transforming lives and strengthening community resilience without any discrimination. Together, we can multiply hope. Together, we can ensure that no family is left behind”, the Executive Director and volunteer at IMHH adds.
