Addressing a massive gathering, General Museveni anchored his appeal on the NRM’s role restoring stability, urguing the ectorates to act as “ambassadors of peace” as they head to the polls.
The President reminded the people of Pakwach of the region’s turbulent past, noting that previous conflicts had driven many residents into exile. He credited the NRM government with restoring the stability that enabled their safe return home.
“You must safeguard the achievements made under the NRM government, including peace, improved infrastructure, wealth creation, and socioeconomic empowerment,” Museveni told the crowd, emphasizing the need to vote the NRM back into power to protect these gains.
Focus on Infrastructure and Economic Growth
Highlighting the region’s transformation, the NRM candidate underscored the significant investments made in economic infrastructure. He specifically pointed to the construction of major roads and improved social services, arguing that these developments have unlocked West Nile’s potential and enhanced its regional competitiveness.
Museveni stressed that continued development hinges on retaining the current leadership to ensure stability and follow-through on planned projects.
Addressing Local Concerns: Fisheries and Land Disputes
Beyond national policy, General Museveni actively addressed specific community concerns raised by local leaders in Pakwach.
Responding to complaints regarding unsustainable fishing practices on local water bodies, the NRM candidate revealed plans to appoint an elders’ committee in Pakwach District. This committee will be tasked with overseeing fishing activities and ensuring strict adherence to sustainable practices.
He issued a strong caution against the use of substandard fishing gear, which has contributed to the depletion of mature fish stocks. Museveni called for dialogue with indigenous groups to build consensus and ensure effective, sustainable fisheries management going forward.
Furthermore, seeking to foster harmony among local communities, President Museveni promised to initiate a special committee to investigate an ongoing land dispute. This issue involves conflict between the Jolam community of the Alur and the Acholi community within Pakwach District, with the aim of achieving a lasting resolution.
The rally marks the commencement of General Museveni’s extensive campaign trail across the West Nile sub-region as he seeks to secure another term in office under the NRM banner.
